In launching the Secession’s Whose Freedom? event series, curator Katalin Székely and artists Szabolcs KissPál and Katarina Šević talked about their experiences of growing constraints on artistic production in Hungary on the backdrop of a right-wing conservative political system. Moderated by Jade Niklai.
Szabolcs KissPál is an artist and associate professor in the Intermedia Program of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and co-founder of the Free Artist protest group. He lives in Budapest.
Katarina Šević is an artist committed to a collaborative practice and cofounder of several independent art spaces and initiatives. She lives in Berlin.
Katalin Székely is a member of the curatorial team at OFF-Biennale Budapest and creative program officer at the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives, Budapest. She lives in Budapest.
Jade Niklai (Moderator) is a curator and the director of Blood Mountain Projects, an arts organisation exploring the cultural past, present and potential of Central Europe. She lives in Vienna.
