Guided tours on Life Ball weekend
The 23rd Life Ball, one of the world’s largest AIDS charity events, will be held in Vienna’s City Hall and on the square in front of it on May 16, 2015. The motto of this year’s Life Ball is “Gold—Ver Sacrum,” and the Secession’s great cultural treasures are a defining theme: an enlarged replica of the Secession’s cupola will tower above the Life Ball stage on Rathausplatz. Gustav Klimt’s Beethoven Frieze (1902), restaged in a contemporary interpretation by the photographer Inge Prader, is a central motif in the Style Bible, the guidebook for Life Ball visitors. Klimt’s original, which is based on Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, is a work of raw energy and powerful eroticism that drew admiration as well as harsh criticism at the time of its creation. Measuring 34 meters in length, the wall painting is on view in a dedicated gallery in the basement beneath the Secession’s home.
On Life Ball weekend, we offer guided tours of the frieze at the following times
Saturday, May 16, 2pm
Sunday, May 17, 2pm, 3:30pm, and 5pm
