Friedrich Danielis, Echos Klage – Echo’s Lament
Helga Illich will read “Echos Klage”
The story of the profoundly unlucky nymph Echo has accompanied me since my adolescence. She has touched me much.
To quote from the book: “She lost all sense of herself – her perfect limbs, heaven turned into flesh, all connections to a body – she was left with a feeling of nothingness, even her voice, already no more her own but an echo of others, sounded lifeless and without aim through the woods, when she had heard a sound she was forced to repeat.
Only the absent gods would know whether it is the last of their jokes that it should be the loss, and only the loss that remains – or is it the last of their mysteries?
And yet, there was this beauty, recalled forever, and that echo sounds on in memory. This sound has caused these gouaches “Echo’s Lament” as loveletters into uncertainty – who knows if they will ever be read?”
