The "Façade Project" of the Secession began exactly a year ago with a series of banners that were shown on the entrance façade of the building, which is one of the most frequently photographed motifs in Vienna. Seventeen projects by international artists were presented one after another in two-week intervals for seven months. All of them were invited by the Secession to take a position on the political situation in Austria with artistic statements. This project elicited a strong echo from the international press and resulted in a lively discussion within the art scene.
 
The publication documenting the project now makes it possible to assemble and compare the works in their diversity, showing a tableau of the heterogeneous approaches and methods that artists may find in dealing with a political situation.
