Marc Adrian, GO, 1964.

Marc Adrian is presenting a selection of his filmic oeuvre in the Ver Sacrum Room (18/11/'98 - 17/1/'98). This artist's work, which was created in the '50s and '60s in close intellectual proximity to the Wiener Gruppe, is devoted above all to psychological and narrative subject matter. His films deal with the themes of violence, sexuality, power, the state, perception and deception.

"The circumstances of their production and the intellectual melting pot that these films sprang from are extremely revealing and (originally) stem from the effects of foreign occupation in Vienna during the middle of the '50s. One could put together a whole list of correlations linking this filmic oeuvre with the music, concrete poetry and philosophical investigations prevalent during this period in Vienna". (Peter Mudie).

This exhibition will be supplemented by a special viewing of Marc Adrian's films at the Austrian Film Museum in the Albertina on Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at 6.30 and 8.30 p.m. The first comprehensive study of the artist Marc Adrian and his work will be published by Sonderzahl Verlag (publisher Otto Mörth) at the beginning of January, 1999.
